Ancient Greece describes the rise
and fall of the great classical Greek civilization. Stories cover the period
from the rise of Greek civilization on Minoan Crete in about 2000 b.c. to
the youth of Alexander the Great (356–323 b.c.). The reader is introduced
to the great city-states of Athens and Sparta and the role that these very
different societies played in the spread of the Greek empire and the development
of classical Greek culture. Throughout, history is seen through the eyes
of those who lived during that turbulent period.
