Consumer Economics and Personal Finance is a course that covers basic economic concepts and the practical aspects of applying them to daily living. It is offered in both middle schools and high schools, sometimes as a required course, sometimes as an elective, and sometimes as a part of another course (such as family living). This text aims to serve the full range of students who may take consumer economics by providing examples and content aimed at a variety of students, including school-to-work, ESL, and college-bound students. This format will hold students’ interest with its personal appeal and concrete examples, while its easy-to-study format—short paragraphs, many lists and charts, and vocabulary treatment—encourages success.
